Audit disastrous for central Victoria: Chesters

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, is calling on Prime Minister Tony Abbott and the federal Liberal Government to rip up the Commission of Audit and start again.

Ms Chesters said if all, or even some, of the recommendations proposed in the Commission of Audit released by Treasurer Joe Hockey yesterday were implemented, it would mean disaster for Bendigo and central Victoria.

The Commission of Audit recommends:

- cutting the minimum wage
- ending the universal health care system
- including the family home in pension asset test
- cutting family benefits
- delaying the roll out of the NDIS
- capping the Paid Parental Leave scheme
- increasing higher education costs

“Families, businesses, community groups - everyone will face massive cuts in support and income, whilst at the same paying more tax,” Ms Chesters said.

“The proposal to cut the minimum wage is particularly nasty.

“Minimum wage workers like cleaners, shop assistants and childcare workers are already struggling to make ends meet. If their wages were cut any more, they would not have the income to pay for the basics.

“This report is a terrible blue print for government policy and the future direction of this Liberal Government.

“Tony Abbott should rip it up and start again.”
