Backing Local Jobs

Labor candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, plans to meet industry and workers throughout Central Victoria and the Macedon Ranges to discuss how this region could benefit from the Gillard Labor Government’s $1 billion Plan for Australian Jobs.

Labor’s Plan for Australian Jobs announcement aims to boost Australian innovation, productivity and competitiveness and create jobs.

“Creating and supporting jobs is what the Labor Government has done every day since its election,” Federal Labor candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, said.

“This $1 billion initiative builds on our strong support for manufacturing and the nearly 7,000 people who work in manufacturing in the Bendigo electorate.

“I am excited by this plan. I will be working tirelessly with local manufacturing groups to help capitalise on these opportunities for the benefit of Central Victoria.”

“Labor will help local manufacturers win more work at home from major projects such as mining and infrastructure projects. We will also support local industry to grow exports and win new business overseas, and we will increase assistance for small businesses to grow.

Ms Chesters said Labor’s competent economic management has delivered low inflation, low interest rates, low unemployment, solid growth and strong public finances.

“Along with the Government’s investments in education and skills, infrastructure, clean energy and the National Broadband Network, A Plan for Australian Jobs will ensure our nation seizes the opportunities of the future.”

“Only Labor’s plan will get more work into local factories, workshops, construction sites and service industries.”

“Unlike the Opposition, the Gillard Labor Government has real strategies and real policies to help generate business opportunities, create economic growth and boost jobs in Central Victoria.”
