Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters has met with the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society to discuss their proposed project, which would complete the second stage of the Regional Events Centre Development.
“The Prince of Wales Showgrounds is such a well-used and integral part of our community, so it needs to be fit for purpose,” Chesters said.
“It’s been great to learn more about stage two of this plan and I’m looking forward to discussing the need for these upgrades with stakeholders, user groups and the community.”
“Whilst the major infrastructure for the Regional Events Centre has been completed, there remains a number of important associated infrastructure works to be carried out around the perimeter.”
“Upgrading the external part of the building would improve the local experience for user groups including the Australian Sheep & Wool Show, National Swap Meet, Australian Alpaca Association, Bendigo Leisurefest, Groovin the Moo and more; and would provide a solid platform for the future development of the precinct.”
In order to complete the project, the Bendigo Agricultural Show Society is seeking $933,208 in additional funding.
The proposed work includes improving access for pedestrians and vehicles, landscaping the surrounds at the front and back of the regional events centre, and upgrading surface drainage and unsafe road conditions.
Bendigo Agricultural Show Society Executive Officer, Ian Furze said they need to cater to the increasing usage demands and provide a higher standard facility.
“Our vision is to become one of the biggest and best exhibition venues and maintain our status as a World Class Regional Exhibition and Events Centre Complex.
“The second stage would finalise the Regional Events Centre, and enable the Complex to reach its full potential and strategic vision,” Furze said.
“As Bendigo’s major Events and Exhibition Complex, it is vital that we obtain significant investment in our infrastructure”
“With some of the best facilities in Regional Victoria already in place, these improvements would further strengthen Bendigo’s standing as a priority destination for major events and exhibitions.”
