Lisa Chesters MP has written to the Communications Minister, Senator Mitch Fifield, urging him to prioritise the NBN rollout in the Bendigo electorate.
“The Bendigo electorate is in a telecommunications crisis and this Government has failed to deliver on their pre-election promise of NBN to every Australian by 2016,” said Ms Chesters.
“It is my job as the Federal Member for Bendigo to advocate for the people of my electorate on the issues that are important to them. Each and every day people across the electorate contact me to voice their frustration and disappointment with the lack of fast, reliable internet service.
“Twice this week I have stood in Parliament to speak on this issue. I have also written to the Minister about how the delays to the NBN rollout need to be addressed so that my constituents can get the access to broadband they so desperately need.”
In 2015 a VCAT decision overturning planning approval for a key NBN tower at Mt Camel delayed the NBN rollout to Eppalock, Ladys Pass, Goornong and Huntly.
“The fact that a year later we are still waiting on the Government to find a solution to this problem is simply incompetence.”
Whilst a start date has been announced for the rollout to this part of the network, Ms Chesters has concerns that the Government won’t deliver.
“In the past we have seen dates come and go. A start date is not enough – what we need is action.”
