Lisa Chesters MP will be spending a day at Mercy Health Bethlehem Home for the Aged as part of her ‘A Day in Your Shoes’ project on Friday, June 20.

Ms Chesters will visit the aged care home on Aged and Community Services National Open Day, an initiative which aims to celebrate aged care services and promote the positive experiences of older Australians.

She will tour the home, be briefed by staff members, assist with serving lunch to residents and attend a Mad Hatters-themed afternoon tea party.

Ms Chesters said the day would a great chance for her to celebrate Mercy Health’s work and learn from staff and residents.

“Population ageing means more people will require care and support in aged care homes in the future,” Ms Chesters said.

“Government has a key role to play as the sector grows so I am keen to learn how people working in aged care homes think we can best support them.”

Ms Chesters said she was enjoying the diversity of work she was being exposed to through her ‘A Day in Your Shoes’ program.

“It’s been wonderful to visit a different workplace once a month for a day to get a better understanding of the challenges facing various industries and people in my electorate,” she said.

Media are invited to meet Lisa Chesters MP, Mercy Health Bethlehem Home for the Aged workers and residents at the Mad Hatters tea party at 2pm.
