Tomorrow, 4 November, Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters MP will join State member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards at the Ravenswood Interchange construction site.
"Tomorrow is a symbolic and significant milestone for the Ravenswood intersection upgrade project. I welcome the chance to inspect the site and learn firsthand about the progress to date.
“The Calder runs right through the heart of the Bendigo electorate and as the Federal Member, I use it nearly every day.
“The Ravenswood Interchange is a key intersection and carries a high volume of cars and heavy vehicles.
"During 2012 and 2013 there had been a concerning pattern of crashes and near misses at the site. In 2013 this project moved to absolute urgency with a number of road accidents forcing Vic Roads to slow traffic to 80km per hour,” said Ms Chesters.
“I, along with my State colleagues, have advocated in Parliament and in the community to ensure the project remained at the top of the priority list.
In a rare moment of unity this major roads project has received bipartisan support.
"Both Labor and Liberal/ National parties committed funding to the Ravenswood Interchange upgrade because it was a project thecommunity of Bendigo urgently needed.
“I have been a fierce advocate for the Ravenswood upgrade and Calder Highway network and I will continue to be so.
“Tomorrow is another milestone but there is still a lot of work to be done.
"I would also like to acknowledge the patience of road users to date. It may take an extra 5 to 10 minutes travel time but it's better to be safe than sorry," said Ms Chesters.
