Rural and regional issues will be on top of Labor’s agenda today with the Country Caucus spokesperson and Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Joel Fitzgibbon MP in Bendigo.

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters who is the new secretary of Labor's country caucus said today that Mr Fitzgibbon and country caucus members are currently touring regional Victoria.

"I am excited to welcome the Shadow Minister for Agriculture and fellow members of Labor's Country Caucus to Bendigo and Central Victoria," said Ms Chesters

"We have vibrant regional communities with a proud history and exciting future. And yet, despite our diversity and recent success, rural and regional industries are not without their challenges.

To help meet these challenges, country and regional people deserve strong and effective representation.

"Currently National Party members are singing from the Liberal Party song-sheet while being deaf to the concerns of regional Australians” said Ms Chesters

Country Caucus spokesperson and Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Joel Fitzgibbon said the Members of the Country Caucus will ensure the Labor Party maintains a strong focus on issues which affect rural and regional communities.

“The Country Caucus will make sure that the Party’s policy development processes and our responses to Government proposals are guided by the aspirations, ideals and challenges country Australians face,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.

“We will also campaign hard in rural and regional Australia, ensuring strong contests in every electorate, which can only be a good thing for the bush.

During the group’s visit to Bendigo, Mr Fitzgibbon and country caucus members will meet with Hazledene’s Chicken Farms, the Victorian Farmers Federation, the City of Greater Bendigo, the Bendigo Food and Wine Manufacturers and producers group, Balgownie Estate Winery, Rural Bank and Rural Financial Counselling.
