Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP, has announced plans for the next phase of the Eat. Drink. Shop Bendigo campaign, alongside Stan Liacos, Director of City Futures at the City of Greater Bendigo.
“I’m really happy to announce the City of Greater Bendigo has come on board with the Eat. Drink. Shop Bendigo campaign. We are teaming up to keep this campaign going until Christmas,” said Ms Chesters.
Eat. Drink. Shop Bendigo was a community-wide response led by Lisa Chesters to encourage people back to Bendigo’s CBD the weekend after local businesses were forced to close during August’s protests.
“The City is putting $3k into the campaign and I'm putting in $2k. This will pay for social media marketing including advertising, vouchers and promotions to be coordinated by Kathie Bolitho from Tough Cookie Marketing who helped make the first wave of the campaign such a success. It's something we're all really passionate about.
“This campaign is about bringing energy and business back to our town centre. We want to keep this momentum going in the lead up to Christmas. Now is the time people in the city are planning their work Christmas parties and thinking about Christmas shopping.
“We encourage people to buy local. When you buy local the money stays in the local community and supports local jobs and the businesses in the heart of our city.
“The first Eat. Drink. Shop Bendigo campaign was a huge success. Local traders went from their worst weekend of trading during the weekend of the protest, to their best the following weekend, with the launch of Eat. Drink. Shop Bendigo.
“The feedback has been so positive. Some local businesses told me the weekend Eat. Drink. Shop Bendigo launched was their best day of trading this year and others said it was their best day ever!”
