On Sunday 24 February, Labor Candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters will join Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing Catherine King and Men's Health Ambassador Tim Mathieson at the Robyn Hookes Shield Cricket Match at the Canterbury Park Oval, Eaglehawk.
This event is the official Victorian launch of DonateLife Week 2013. DonateLife Week runs from Sunday 24 February to Sunday 3 March 2013 and helps to raise awareness of the need for us all to Discover, Decide and Discuss organ and tissue donation.
DonateLife Week is Australia's national awareness week to promote organ and tissue donation. It is led by the Organ and Tissue Authority as part of the national DonateLife campaign and is supported by community events and activities across Australia
Ms Chesters said today "This is an important issue and conversation that everyone one of us needs to have with our family. An organ and tissue donor could transform the lives of 10 or more people."
"As part of the new Labor Government national reform of organ and tissue donation, the family of every potential donor will be asked to give their consent to donation if the situation arises. The request will be made only by trained health professionals," Ms Chesters said.
"I have had the conversation with my family and they are aware of my wishes and know I wish to be a donor."
"I would like to encourage everyone during DonateLife Week take some time to share your wish with your family and close friends, and ask them about their wishes."
