Labor candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, today welcomed the announcement by the Federal Labor Government that it will provide an additional $1.5 billion to continue the Family Support Program.
This ongoing funding means local community organisations can continue to deliver vital support services for families and children across the Bendigo electorate.
“The four-year funding commitment provides greater certainty for our local family support service providers, including the Salvation Army, St Lukes Anglicare and Centacare, so they can plan ahead and invest in long-term support for families and children,” Ms Chesters said.
“Labor recognises the importance of early intervention to support families and children to help prevent problems from developing and escalating.”
Federal Labor will also provide an additional $5 million to promote greater collaboration between these services in communities, to ensure that families have access to integrated, high quality, early intervention and prevention and family law services.
The Federal Government will work closely with the sector to implement these important changes to the Family Support Program.
