Federal Labor Candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, today welcomed the announcement by the Victorian State Government that the Viewpoint residential subdivision at Huntly has hastened the rollout of natural gas to the town.
"In September I joined the Federal Housing Minister, Brendan O’Connor, as he turned the first sod for the Viewpoint residential estate and announced a new housing affordability project," Ms Chesters said.
"The Federal Government is providing a $38,800 grant to 100 eligible purchasers through the Better Regional Cities program to make the purchase of land in the Viewpoint Estate more affordable.
"Tackling the issue of housing affordability is core Labor business. Here in Greater Bendigo the median property price has increase by up to 10.5 % for the year to June 2012 making the Aussie dream of owning your own home that much harder for Bendigo families on low incomes."
