JobKeeper Must Be Extended to Casual Workers

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters is calling on the Morrison Government to extend the JobKeeper payment to Central Victorian workers who have been left behind.

“I am deeply concerned that far too many local workers will still miss out,” Chesters said.

“People who have worked for less than 12months with their employer miss out on the JobKeeper payment.

“That includes workers who have recently moved to Bendigo and those working for a recently opened business in Bendigo.

“How is it fair that these workers miss out?

“Like many of us, these workers have mortgages, rent and bills to pay. They also need to put food on the table.

“It’s not just some causals that miss out on the JobKeeper payment but all freelancers, temporary migrants, NDIS workers, charity workers, relief teachers, uni staff, state and local Government workers.

The Morrison Government can extend the Jobkeeper payment to other workers.

The Treasurer has extraordinary powers to extend JobKeeper payments to whoever he likes.

The only thing needed to help these workers is the Treasurer’s signature.

“He has the power, why doesn’t he use it?” Chesters said.
