Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters said today that only Labor has a real plan to create and secure jobs for Bendigo and Central Victoria.
During Labor's official Federal Election launch opposition Leader Bill Shorten announced that a Shorten Labor Government will make it easier for Bendigo and Central Victorian small businesses to create new jobs.
Under Labor’s New Jobs Tax Cut, small businesses will be able to claim a tax deduction of up to $20,000 per worker to offset the wages of up to five new employees.
"This policy will help create more local full-time jobs," said Ms Chesters.
"This is a real jobs plan that offers a responsible tax cut to small businesses but to qualify for the deduction, the employees will need to be a net addition to the company’s average full-time equivalent staffing level for the previous year," said Ms Chesters.
Labor’s policy will be targeted to small businesses with turnover of less than $2 million which have been operating for more than two years.
"What's great about Labor's New Jobs Tax Cut is that it will be available to businesses hiring Australians who face real barriers to finding work, including:
• Unemployed jobseekers aged under 25 or over 55.
• Parents or carers returning to work after more than six months away.
"Too many older job seekers, parents, carers and younger Central Victorians are struggling to get back into work after becoming unemployed or taking time out of the workforce.
"They want to work but there just aren't enough jobs," said Ms Chesters.
"I've meet too many young people who have applied for hundreds of jobs but rarely get an interview let alone a job.
"Only Labor has a plan to create and secure jobs for Bendigo and a Central Victoria.
"A Labor Government will do all it can to help Central Victorians who want to work, but can’t get a foot in the door, into jobs.
"Labor's New Jobs Tax Cut will reward small businesses that invest in jobs and do their bit to get these Central Victorians back to into work,” said Ms Chesters.
