Labor’s jobs plan for Central Victorians with disability

Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters MP today announced that Labor's Jobs Plan for people with a disability will help many Central Victorians into meaningful work.

Labor’s jobs plan for Australians with disability will encourage business and community organisations to employ more Australians living with disability, trial reforms to Disability Employment Services so there is more choice and control, and ensure more people with disability can work in the public service.

"Over the past three years I've worked closely with locals with a disability, their families and disability support agencies.  People with a disability continue to come up against many barriers when it comes to finding meaningful and long term work.

"Lots of people with a disability want to work but they struggle to find a job agency or network that understands their needs and match them with suitable work.

"Whilst many disability agencies have established fantastic social enterprises like Morley's Emporium that offer real work opportunities, it's not enough. We need the private and public sector to employ more Central Victorians with a disability” said Ms Chesters.

A Shorten Labor Government will also lead by example and employ more people with a disability. We will ensure workplaces are equipped and ready to meet the needs of all of their workers, including people with a disability.
