Labor to deliver $50million to the Calder Freeway

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $50 million to upgrade the Calder Freeway between Gap Road and the M80.

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters said the proposed upgrade will deliver enormous benefits to the Bendigo electorate by reducing congestion, improving travel times and increasing safety.

“This National Road Safety week we are putting the spotlight on preventing fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.

“The Calder Freeway is the main access to Melbourne for commuters from Bendigo and the Bendigo electorate.

“From Woodend to Bendigo, the Calder runs straight through the middle of the Bendigo electorate and needs to be up to standard.

“Labor recognises that the outer suburbs of Melbourne’s west and north-west are experiencing significant population and employment growth through the emergence of new suburbs, and are in desperate need of improved roads to meet the growing demand.

“This growth is putting pressure on the Calder Freeway - road users from Bendigo and Central Victoria will welcome this announcement.

“People will know the stretch of road, it is often congested at peak hour times.”

Unlike the Liberals, Federal Labor will work with the Andrews Labor Government to see this $50 million investment in Calder Freeway delivered.

After six years of Liberal cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready.
