Liberals hit Central Victorian hospitals with funding cut

Central Victorian Hospitals have been delivered a double dose of pain by the Liberal Federal and State Government Budget cuts.

Recent figures released reveal that Bendigo Health alone will suffer $7 million in cuts as a result of Tony Abbott’s Liberal Government slashing close to $300 million from Victoria’s hospitals.

Before the election, Tony Abbott promised no cuts to health however budget documents released over the weekend revealed that the Abbott Liberal Government will spend $560 million less on Public Hospitals over the forward estimates. This is compared to what was committed in the budget by Labor.

“These hospital funding cuts will rob hospitals across Central Victoria of vital funds. Bendigo, Kyneton, Castlemaine, Maldon and Heathcote Hospitals will all be affected by these savage funding cuts,” Ms Chesters said.

Health Minister Dutton’s confirmation of half a billion dollars of cuts is another broken promise by Tony Abbott and will blow out waiting times for people on elective surgery waiting lists and those accessing  emergency departments.

Liberal Premiers should be taking a stand and standing up to Tony Abbott on these cuts to hospitals in their states.

This is another attack by the Abbott Government on our public health system coming on the back of its plan to increase pressure on hospitals through a GP Tax that will see patients putting off doctor visits and costing every Australian more.

“These Hospital cuts are more evidence that you can’t trust Liberals with our health system. Central Victorians deserve better than having Abbott and Napthine cutting our vital health system funding,” Ms Chesters said.
