New Minister for Defence Materiel invited to Bendigo

Labor candidate for the Federal seat of Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, has welcomed the appointment of Mike Kelly as Minister for Defence Materiel.

“I’d like to congratulate Mike Kelly on his elevation to the Ministry and on his appointment as the new Minister for Defence Materiel,” Ms Chesters said.

“Mike has extensive experience in defence. He has been Parliamentary Secretary for Defence since 2011 and before his election to Parliament he served in the Australian Army for twenty years finishing with the rank of Colonel as Director of Army Legal Services.”

Ms Chesters said she has already invited Mr Kelly to see Bendigo’s defence manufacturing industry first-hand.

“While I’m sure Mike will be busy in the coming weeks getting across his new portfolio, I have extended an invitation for him to visit Bendigo as soon as his schedule allows.”

“Mike has always been supportive of Australia’s defence manufacturers and I’m sure he will be keen to see for himself the world-class products made here in Bendigo by Thales Australia and Australian Defence Apparel.”
