Recognising Environmentalists

Nominations are open for the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year and Young Environmentalist of the Year awards, Federal Labor candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, said today.

“These awards recognise the unsung heroes in our community who have made an outstanding contribution in protecting our environment and creating a sustainable future for Australia.”

Ms Chesters encouraged individuals, groups or organisations who have been working to protect our environment to nominate for either the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year or Young Environmentalist of the Year award.

“Volunteers and community groups do a huge amount of work in conserving our environment and creating a more sustainable Australia, and central Victoria has outstanding examples of people working towards environmental excellence,” Ms Chesters said.

“These awards recognise those incredible people who give up their time to contribute to our environment and I encourage anyone who knows them, and the vital contribution they make, to nominate them.”

The Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year award is open to any Australian individual, group or organisation for a project undertaken within Australia, which has made a significant contribution towards the environment.

The Young Environmentalist of the Year Award is open to any Australian under the age of 25 for a project undertaken within Australia which has made a significant contribution towards the environment.

Nominations close on 22 April 2013 and the awards will be announced as part of World Environment Day celebrations in June 2013.
