The announcement by the Regional Australia Minister, Simon Crean, of two of the remaining three rounds of funding from the Regional Development Australia Fund is great news for Central Victoria, Federal Labor Candidate Lisa Chesters said today.
“Bendigo has already benefited from earlier rounds of the fund with $12.8 million being allocated for the re-development of the Bendigo Gaol into a state-of-the-art the theatre complex.
“Round three will directly address feedback from communities by targeting $50 million, in grants of between $50 000 and $500 000, for projects in towns with a population of 30 000 or less.
“Round four will see $175 million allocated through grants of between $500 000 and $15 million to deliver priority regional infrastructure in partnership with funding from state and local governments, and the private sector.
“Both rounds are being rolled out at the same time – so $225 million is available now for partnership projects right across Australia.
“I have been meeting with many Central Victorian community organisations, businesses and other stakeholders and I know just how active our community is. I am confident that there will be many high quality funding applications to further improve facilities in our region.
Ms Chesters said it was important for projects that were unsuccessful in the first two rounds of funding to persist.
“I urge the Central Victorian community to take advantage of this funding and keep working with the Loddon Mallee RDA because it’s the committee that decides which Expression of Interest are selected as priority projects to proceed to full applications.
