Building Better Regions Fund fails to build a better Bendigo Airport (again)

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters has today expressed disappointment in the Bendigo Airport once again missing out funding through the Morrison-Joyce government’s latest round of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

“This Bendigo Airport Terminal upgrade will create jobs, bring more people to Bendigo and drive economic growth.

“Which will be so important as we begin to open up and start our recovery,” Ms Chesters said.

The City of Greater of Bendigo sought $4.3 million to upgrade the Bendigo Airport terminal to ensure it is able to keep up with its growing demand.

City of Greater Bendigo figures predict that over 240,000 people will be using the Bendigo Airport by 2030. The terminal needs an expansion if it services more than 30,000 passengers each year.

“However, as they have done for the previous three rounds of the BBRF, the Bendigo Airport Terminal upgrade was overlooked once again.”

If this government really cared about Regional Australia, if it really cared boosting economic recovery, then it would have funded the Bendigo Airport – a project that has been widely endorsed by local and state governments as well as the local business community.

“I’ve spoken to local businesses and organisations from motels to manufacturers, who want this project to go ahead,” Ms Chesters said.
