Central Victorian Stronger Communities Projects ready for green light

Federal Member for Bendigo today will be joined by Castlemaine State Festival representatives who hope to get their green light for a $18,000 Stronger Communities grant application submitted to the Federal Government last week.

The State Festival have sought funding for fitting out the Goods Shed which will provide a new home for many community groups including Castlemaine Circus, Victoian Goldfields Railway, Aboriginal Keeping Place and the Festival amongst many.

“This is an exciting project. It is one of ten that we have recommended to the Department of Infrastructure to be funded as part of the Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme.

“We are now waiting on the Department to assess these projects against the Guidelines and determine whether the project represents a proper use of grant funding.

“I hope that all of the Bendigo electorate projects will be given the green light as soon as possible.

To help determine the priority list, Federal Members of Parliament were requested to establish a community consultation committee to undertake consultation in their electorate to identify eligible projects and invite applicants to apply.

“Here in the Bendigo electorate our consultative committee reviewed applications that totalled over $300,000 in funding requests for a fund of $150,000. Many tough decisions were made.

“The reality is that there is a shortfall of funding available in our communities for small capital works projects.

“There will be another opportunity for unsuccessful and other organisations to apply for Round 2 in 2016. Organisations can register their interest by contacting the Bendigo Electorate office on 03 5443 9055 or sending an email to [email protected].”
