Local agencies are being encouraged to nominate volunteer programs to be recognised at an
award ceremony by Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters.
Ms Chesters is holding ceremonies in Tarnagulla, Kyneton, Castlemaine and Bendigo to
celebrate central Victoria’s hard‐working and committed volunteers.
The celebrations tie in with International Volunteer Day, which is held annually on December 5.
Local agencies have been invited to nominate programs which rely on, support and involve
All nominated programs will receive an award of recognition at the ceremonies.
Ms Chesters said volunteers were the lifeblood of regional communities.
“Our volunteers and their organisations do a great job in creating a sense of belonging and
social inclusion and building stronger local communities,” she said.
“They show incredible commitment towards their organisations and take pride in their work.
“Across central Victoria, our volunteers are unsung heroes of our communities.”
Ms Chesters urged all agencies to acknowledge the efforts of their volunteers.
“I would encourage all agencies to nominate their programs and recognise the important work
their volunteers do every day,” she said.
Celebrations for International Volunteer Day will take place on:
Friday, November 29:
• 10am – Tarnagulla, Tarnagulla Community Centre, 8 Sandy Creek Lane
Friday, December 6:
• 8am – Kyneton, Café Quintessence, 35 High Street
• 10am – Castlemaine, Castlemaine Market Building, Mostyn Street
• 3pm – Bendigo, Bendigo RSL, 73/75 Havilah Road
