Lisa Chesters MP, Federal Member for Bendigo, has today donated $1000 to support the Castlemaine Community Lunch.

“The coordinator and volunteers at the Castlemaine Community Lunch do a fantastic job of bringing the community together every Tuesday to share a two-course meal and to catch up with other locals.

“For over 20 years the community lunch has strengthened local ties and is a wonderful example of the generosity of the Castlemaine community.

“Each week, volunteers create a nutritious meal using local produce; most of it donated by local businesses and community gardens.

“It also provides a place where people can connect with each other; the whole community is represented.

“I wanted to support this fantastic regular event - and the people who make it happen - and I’m very happy to be able to contribute for another year,” said Ms Chesters.

Martyn Shaddick, Manager of the Castlemaine Community House, was very pleased to accept the donation which will ensure the lunch can continue throughout 2019.

“It started as a small shared lunch idea but has now grown to feed 80 – 100 people each week.

“For many people attending the lunch, this is maybe the only meal they will have that day so Lisa’s donation is really important.

“The lunch also provides great ideas on what can be cooked with seasonal and low cost ingredients,” said Mr Shaddick.

“I’ve really enjoyed the lunches that I’ve been able to attend and I encourage anyone who may be interested to consider volunteering with this wonderful community program,” said Ms Chesters.

The Community Lunch takes place at 12:30pm each Tuesday during school terms and in Term 4 will be held at Camp Reserve, 11 Forest Street, Castlemaine.  A donation of $5 is appreciated.
