Chesters takes fight for support to Parliament

This week Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters spoke out in Parliament about the urgent need for financial support for businesses and workers in the Bendigo electorate affected by COVID19.

Several businesses and schools in the Bendigo electorate are exposure sites forcing workers and families into isolation. On top of this, businesses have had to close because they can’t fill shifts.

“This is the reality of opening up. And we’re doing it without a single scrap of support from Scott Morrison and his Government,” Ms Chesters said.

“There’s no JobKeeper or PAYG Withholding support this year.”

“I’ve been contacted by a number of businesses who are in this situation. Others have shared their experiences on social media.

“They are hurting and there’s no Federal Government support for businesses that have suddenly had to close their doors.

“It’s a scary time for many who are worried about their future.”

At arguably the most critical stage of pandemic, the Federal Government has no plan to support Central Victorian businesses and workers as we open up.

“People are exhausted. It has been a tough two years. If they’ve been forced to close for COVID related reasons they should be supported by our Federal Government.

“I said that I would, and I have and will continue to fight for support for local businesses and their workers,” Ms Chesters said.
