The Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP, will officially launch Bendigo’s own soccer team, Bendigo City FC, when she presents the team with their strips at a celebration tonight.
“I am so thrilled to be given the honour of presenting the team strips to our very own Bendigo City FC,” said Ms Chesters.
“This team embodies the generosity and spirit of our region. We can take great pride in the fact that our local community rallied to ensure soccer has a future here in Bendigo, and I have no doubt that Bendigo City FC will reward us with a fantastic season of football.
“The ‘Made in Bendigo’ club, along with the city’s other high profile sporting teams like the WNBL’s Bendigo Spirit, really puts our region on the map when it comes to sport. The opportunities these teams provide for young people and the entertainment they offer, not to mention local pride, are immeasurable.
“Like most of Bendigo, I’ll be behind the team when they come up against Moreland City this Saturday. I wish them every success for a terrific first season,” said Ms Chesters.
The launch takes place tonight at #Hashtag public bar, ahead of the team’s Victorian Premier League debut against Moreland City at the Epsom Huntly Reserve this Saturday.
“Lisa’s focus is Bendigo and what better person to have than our federal member involved,” said Bendigo City FC general manager, Robyn Williams.
“Over 120 players will represent Bendigo from senior men through to the youngest of our sides being the U12 boys. It’s an opportunity for boys to follow their dreams and play at the highest level whilst still living in their home town.”
