Chesters welcomes Affordable Housing Grants

Endorsed Labor candidate for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, tonight congratulated the successful applicants for a number of $38,800 affordable housing grants at the Viewpoint Huntly development.

“It’s really exciting that so many hard working central Victorians will now have a chance to own their little bit of Australia and build their own homes.”

Ms Chesters said the grants are being funded from the Gillard Labor Government’s Building Better Regional Cities project, which has allocated nearly $3.9 million to the City of Greater Bendigo.

“The BBRC funding is allowing the Council to construct sewer works and water services, as well as upgrade roadways and the central park area within the Viewpoint Huntly estate.”

Ms Chesters said savings from the Federal Government’s investment are being passed on to new homebuyers through this ballot, which was conducted by Ethan Affordable Housing.

“The ballot was to determine the order in which successful applicants can select their block of land, but each one will receive a $38,800 grant and major lenders have advised that eligible buyers can use the grant towards a deposit on their house and land package at Viewpoint Huntly.”

“Housing affordability is a serious challenge and it is a key priority of the Gillard Labor Government. Labor believes all Australians deserve a safe and affordable home, so they can raise families, keep their children in school, and find and hold a job,” Ms Chesters said.
