Labor to fund next stage of Bendigo Airport

Joint media release with Catherine King MP, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.

An Albanese Labor Government will ensure the next stage of Bendigo Airport’s development is ready for lift-off by contributing $4.5m to expand the terminal building.

Over the last five years, Bendigo Airport has grown into a regional airport capable of hosting daily passenger flights. Now, figures from the City of Greater Bendigo figures predict that over 240,000 people will be using the airport by 2030.

The only thing holding back the next stage of the airport’s growth is an out of date and inadequate terminal building that is incapable of supporting more than 30,000 passengers each year.

Labor’s commitment will let Bendigo Airport take the next step, updating the terminal building, building supporting infrastructure to meet legislated security standards and providing the level of service and amenity that commercial passengers expect.

This upgrade will deliver immediate benefits for Bendigo, with modelling commissioned by the City of Greater Bendigo finding the new service would inject $3.9 million into the regional economy during its first year alone.

This project will deliver more secure local jobs and more opportunities to the Bendigo community.

While this important project has been repeatedly ignored through Barnaby Joyce’s rorted Building Better Regions Fund, an Albanese Labor Government will deliver this essential upgrade for the future economic growth of Bendigo.
