CHESTERS AND LABOR WILL CONTINUE DELIVERING FOR BENDIGO

01 May 2025

Labor Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters vows to continue to deliver for Bendigo if re-elected at Saturday’s Federal election.

Thanks to Labor’s responsible economic management, inflation is lower, real wages are growing, unemployment is low and interest rates are starting to fall.

In Bendigo, over 66,000 workers have already received a tax cut. They will receive 2 additional tax cuts under a re-elected Labor government.

Labor is also committed to rebuilding Medicare, with plans to invest $8.3 billion into Medicare so people can see a bulk-billing GP for free.

The Bendigo Urgent Care Clinic is one of 87 clinics across the country providing fully bulk billed urgent care, 7 days a week. If re-elected, Labor will fund an additional 50 Urgent Care Clinics.

This is delivering real help with the cost of living.

The Bendigo electorate has received its fair share of funding under the Albanese Labor Government, with over $433 million flowing to our region since Labor was elected in 2022 to fix local roads, secure local manufacturing jobs, and improve our community infrastructure.

Ms Chesters has secured a range of local commitments that will deliver benefits for Bendigo’s sports and recreation facilities, tourism industry, veterans and the environment. These include:

  • $500,000 for a Kangaroo Flat Skate Park
  • $2,915,000 for Bendigo Heritage Attractions
  • $750,000 for the Kyneton Skate Park
  • $1,000,000 for the Truscott Reserve Pavilion
  • $3,000,000 for the North Bendigo Recreation Reserve Pavilion
  • $7,000,000 for the Reimagining Bendigo Creek project
  • $5,000,000 to develop a Veterans’ and Families’ Hub in Bendigo

The choice at this election is clear: Labor strengthening Medicare, building homes and delivering lasting cost of living relief, or Peter Dutton’s plan to cut everything.

And when he cuts, Bendigo pays.

Quotes attributable to Labor Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters:

“Bendigo is better positioned now than it was 3 years ago under the Liberals and Nationals.

“Workers are earning more and keeping more of what they earn, bulk billing is on the rise and the Bendigo Urgent Care Clinic is making a real difference.

“Labor will build on our first term by delivering more help with the cost of living while Building Australia’s Future.

“In contrast, Peter Dutton plans to make cuts across the board to pay for his $600 billion nuclear scheme which he hasn’t released costings for.

“The projects Labor has committed to for our region will have significant social benefits, boost our local tourism industry and revitalise our waterways.

“I will continue to be a strong voice for the Bendigo region."
