LISA AND LABOR DELIVERING FOR THE BENDIGO ELECTORATE

The Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP and the Federal Labor Government have delivered for the Bendigo Electorate in 2025 and will continue to deliver for the Bendigo Electorate in 2026.

Expanding bulk billing to every Australian and cutting student debts by 20% are some of the many measures we have delivered for local constituents.

 

Since the bulk billing changes were introduced on 1 November 2025, 23 clinics in the Bendigo electorate have moved to 100% bulk billing practices.

 

Throughout November and December, 17,105 constituents in the Bendigo Electorate with a student debt will have their student debt reduced by 20%.

 

In 2025, construction has started on several key local community infrastructure projects including:

 

  • Golden Square Recreation Reserve Redevelopment creating inclusive and female friendly changerooms with a total cost of $2.3 million with $500,000 coming from our election commitments.
  • Stage One of the North Bendigo Rec Reserve upgrades costing $3.75 million with $1 million from the Federal Governments Investing in our Communities program.
  • Heathcote Civic Precinct (Community Hub) a project costing $4.3 million with $2.03 million coming from the Federal Government.
  • The $12.4 million Frederick Street Precinct Project with $12.19 million coming from the Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program.
  • Investing $11.3 million through the Housing Support Program for three sewer pump stations in Marong building critical infrastructure for future housing.

 

In 2026, Lisa and Labor will continue to deliver for Bendigo with work to commence on the following key community infrastructure projects including:

 

  • Stage One of the Central Deborah Gold Mine with $2.915 million provided by the Federal Government. 
  • $7 million for the next phase of Reimagining the Bendigo Creek.
  • Truscott Reserve Pavilion with the Federal Government providing $1 million going towards the $2.95 million project.
  • Investing further in the North Bendigo Rec Reserve redevelopment with $3 million towards Stage 2 - the North Bendigo Recreation Reserve Pavilion Upgrades
  • $5.1 million towards the Resilient Water Infrastructure: Protecting Central Victoria from Future Flood Disruptions Project at Lake Eppalock provided through the Disaster Ready Fund.

 

The Albanese Labor Government also recognises that Australian household budgets are still under pressure and that’s why we will continue to delivery targeted cost of living relief.

 

From the 1st of January 2026, the Albanese Labor Government is boosting social security payments for 11,585 people in the Bendigo Electorate.

 

Individuals in the Bendigo Electorate receiving Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY, Youth Disability Support Pension and Carer Allowance are set to see more money in their bank account each fortnight.

 

A single adult receiving Youth Allowance with no dependents, who lives away from home, will see their maximum fortnightly payment increase to $684.20, making their annual payment now more than $3,800 more since Labor came to government.

 

Around 2,250 people in the Bendigo Electorate receiving the Carer Allowance will see their payments increase to $162.60 per fortnight, making their annual payment almost $700 more since Labor came to government.

 

Lisa and Labor will also:

  • Delivering two more rounds of tax cuts for every taxpayer next year and the year after.
  • Making medicines even cheaper from 1 January next year.
  • Rolling out 1800 Medicare from 1 January next year and delivering more bulk billing.
  • Building more social and community housing including right here in Bendigo.
