A calendar of events for National Volunteer Week will be launched by Lisa Chesters MP in Bendigo on Thursday.
Bendigo and Mount Alexander Volunteer Networks have put together the calendar, promoting events across the Bendigo electorate which celebrate the work of volunteers.
National Volunteer Week runs from May 11 to 18. This year’s theme is “Celebrate the Power of Volunteering”, referencing the extraordinary impact volunteering has for communities, groups and individuals.
Ms Chesters said she was honoured to bring attention to the wonderful events being held across the Central Victorian region to celebrate National Volunteer Week.
“Our volunteers and their organisations create a sense of belonging and build stronger local communities,” she said.
“Weeks like this are a wonderful opportunity to thank our volunteers and recognise their commitment to our community.
“It’s also an opportunity to encourage new volunteers. If you have a little extra time and would like to contribute to building stronger local communities, I would encourage you to think about volunteering or join a service organisation.
“I enjoy volunteering for the Bendigo Farmers Market and I am a member of the Kangaroo Flat Lions Club and the Bendigo Zonta Club.
“It’s great to give back to your local community. I also enjoy the fellowship that comes with being involved in service clubs and organisations.”
